When you come to therapy looking for help

  • in dealing with anxiety, depression, grief, or
  • you’re feeling stuck and misunderstood, or
  • you’re tired of the feelings of shame, low self-esteem, or lack of self confidence that hold you back, or
  • you need help working through a major life transition or creative block, or
  • you and your partner need new and better communication skills,

you want to know you’ve found someone who can really hear where you are, and who understands what you’re going through. I’m dedicated to being a therapist who listens attentively and compassionately with understanding. I bring wisdom, experience, curiosity and intuition to our work together in a manner that’s heartfelt, warm and open, and accepting of you as you are.

An important part of my work as your therapist is to create and hold a safe and secure space for you that accurately reflects your emotional needs, while respecting your inner wisdom and resilient healing abilities. This gives you the opportunity to work into and through the internal places that are holding pain, anxiety and confusion, preventing you from being able to see, accept and love yourself as you are—a unique and irreplaceable human being with talents and insights only you possess. It allows you to begin once again to experience and celebrate that core sense of yourself which has always been there, but may have been covered up long ago by natural responses to the affronts and hurts you have had to endure. And it allows you to tap into your intuition, your own custom guidance tool.

My approach to psychotherapy is holistic and mindful. Therefore, I find it vital to invite the mind, body, emotions, and spirit (all of you) to participate. To that end, we may incorporate one or more of these into your therapeutic journey:

  • guided imagery
  • journaling
  • drawing
  • mindfulness exercises
  • cognitive exercises

My work is informed by and takes direction from these theories and philosophies:

  • Existential-humanistic psychotherapy
  • Eastern spiritual wisdom
  • Hakomi therapy
  • Indigenous, nature-based shamanic wisdom
  • Integral theory
  • Psychodynamic theory
  • Expressive arts

I especially enjoy and find fulfilling my work with adults, couples and families. Specialty areas include:

  • Depression and anxiety
  • Grief and loss
  • Creative blocks
  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Couples communication
  • Abuse and incest
  • Life transitions
  • Addiction / addiction recovery
  • Codependency

Fulfilling a decades-long dream to become a psychotherapist, I hold a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from John F. Kennedy University. My clinical training at a community clinic in the East Bay afforded me the opportunity to work with a diverse, multi-cultural population. Bringing rich life experience to this new career, I draw from the challenges and transitions I have worked through as partner, mother, care-giver, artist, social activist, grief counselor and business owner.
